Gauze pads can absorb and cover; gauze rolls can secure a primary dressing; island dressings combine a pad with an adhesive border; abdominal pads offer larger absorbent coverage; and silicone foam dressings add cushioning and fluid management.
Consider the wound and the user
Size, drainage, skin sensitivity, location and professional instructions all matter. Do not place a non-sterile roll directly onto an open wound unless the instructions allow it.
